Albuquerque may be 7,174 miles from Tel Aviv but on April 23rd they will be just a few feet away from each other using the miracle of today’s video communications technology.
Under the auspices of the New Mexico Economic Development Department, a representative number of Israeli tech companies will make presentations to New Mexico company representatives at a gathering at the Wesst Enterprise Center at 609 Broadway Blvd. NE.
Israel, known colloquially as “The Startup Nation” has more tech startups than any country in the world except for the U.S. As a former Johnson & Johnson Vice-President remarked recently, “There is someone in Israel working on every one of the world’s insoluble problems.”
The event will be an opportunity for companies in New Mexico to interface with counterparts in Israel towards the goal of generating mutually profitable business connections. Whether through joint ventures, increasing exports from New Mexico to Israel, or for the purpose of attracting Israeli companies to locate in New Mexico, the morning session will provide a framework under which mutual dialogue can begin.
For example, New Mexico’s exports to Israel totaled over half a billion dollars in 2016 (the last year for which solid figures are available). The state has maintained a Middle East trade and investment promotion office headquartered in Jerusalem for over 15 years and many New Mexico companies have travelled there for trade shows.
As regards Israeli companies coming to the U.S., in 2016 Israel was the 11th largest source of foreign direct investment for the America and the 8th fastest growing foreign source of investment. Keter Plastics, for example, a company with international headquarters in Herzlia, Israel, is building a $36m production facility in Belem.
In short, if local companies are seeking to increase their international reach or find technologies that can be used to augment their growth, the place to be on April 23rd is Wesst Enterprise Center in Albuquerque.
